New Treatment for Feline Hyperthyroidism
There is now a new treatment for Feline Hyperthyroidism!
Hill's has produced a food called YD which they believe is an excellent treatment for hyperthyroidism. The food is not medicated, but is iodine reduced. The reason that this works is that the thyroid gland needs iodine in order to make thyroid hormone. Felines with hyperthyroidism do not need the additional iodine in their diets, therefore creation of the YD diet.
According to Hill's, every hyperthyroid cat they had put on YD returned to normal thyroid levels. Most improved in three weeks, although some took a few weeks longer. Thus the conclusion that feeding YD is just as good as giving medication. Cats fed this food will not become hyperthyroid. Foods other than YD should not be fed.
