Pet Exams and Vaccinations

Physical Examination

Many pets have individual problems, and these problems often need to be monitored periodically throughout the year. Your pet cannot usually tell you when he feels sick, and the physical examination can often discover a problem before it has a chance to develop into an emergency.

Small problems cost less to solve than big ones, so keeping up with routine checks and vaccinations is always in your best interest. We perform a physical examination with routine vaccinations and also recommend a semiannual physical examination for most patients. Talk to our doctor to find the Examination and Immunization schedule that best fits lifestyle and health.

Vaccinations for Pets

Immunizations are needed to protect your pet from serious and deadly diseases. Generally, immunizations are started when your puppy or kitten is 6-8 weeks of age. We customize your pet's immunization depending on breed, species, and risk of exposure. Not all pets need the same type of vaccine series. Some pets may need modified types of protection if they are allergic to certain types of vaccine products.

There is recent information which may lead us to believe that some vaccinations may last longer than we previously thought. There is also information which suggests some vaccines should be administered more frequently than previously thought. Until more concrete evidence is in we are customizing our vaccines according to the pets' risk level, and continuing protection for most diseases on an annual basis.

Most of the diseases we immunize for are species specific with the exception of Rabies. Rabies vaccination is legally required protection for all pets, as this is a disease that could potentially threaten your health in addition to your pet's health.

For Dogs, the following Immunizations are offered:

  • Canine Distemper
  • Canine Parvovirus
  • Leptospirosis
  • Hepatitis
  • Parainfluenza
  • Canine Influenza
  • Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease
  • Lyme Disease
  • Rabies

For Cats, the following Immunizations are offered:

  • Feline Panleukopenia
  • Feline Calicivirus
  • Feline Rhinotracheitis
  • Feline Leukemia
  • Feline Infectious Peritonitis
  • Feline Aids
  • Rabies

Update: The most recent and very new vaccine guidelines issued by The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Feline Practitioners Association (AFPA) is now recommending that all kittens, whether they plan to live indoors or outdoors be given at least an original series of feline leukemia vaccines. We will thus be changing our current guidelines to include this immunity in the kitten series of vaccines.
